Blue Murder series
OK I am a sucker for British Detective shows. Love most of them and wish there were more on US TV so I could watch New Tricks Gently Vera etc, on the telly. I watch these shows like Blue Murder Murdoch and Taggart for example with my Prime membership which has paid for itself more than once by now I would guess, usually on my Kindle Fire HD7" connected to the flatscreen TV to bring out the HD. Or Ill watch in bed with headphones so as not to disturb my good lady. I find these shows the nice end to the day.
They are a bit gory at times, and for the life of me I cannot understand how this country is so prudish and afraid to show a nipple or breast without blurring or pixelating the picture. Bear in mind these shows are usually a few years old, so does that make us behind the times for viewing? Look at the blood and gore in some of those vampire shows, nothing said, Dare to even hint at a bare breast and it feels like the world is ending.
I digress, Blue Murder is a quirky...
great series
I love Caroline Quentin. I followed the Jonathan Creek series avidly and she was one of the reasons I watched it. Her comedic skills are delightful! She never overplays her roles. She shines in this series as an overworked cop and mother with a relaxed style which is a joy to watch. Too often such series focus on the violence and the protagonists are forced to reflect that violence. When one watches Blue Murder, one gets the feeling that "Mummy " will make everything better :-)
She grows on you
She really does grow on you, this woman -the character and the actor. I don't think I've ever seen Caroline Quentin in anything before, but I'll be looking for her in other parts. The stories are handled gently, even when they deal with particularly ugly crimes -this isn't a genteel chick-flick series, but blood spatter isn't a major character either; murder is ugly, but this series goes after it in an intelligent way so those who like "old-fashioned" shows but are looking for something new might want to try this one. The characters become familiar in an endearing way and the homey chaos of Inspector Lewis home life makes a nice contrast to her pressure filled day job. The acting is good in all cases, the writing is crisp, the characters realistic and well drawn. Give this series a look -it's getting better as it goes along.
