The House of Steinbrenner

When is this going to be released?
I've seen this on pre-sale for months now. When is this DVD actually going to be released so I can purchase this? I watched on ESPN and it was great. I definitely want to add this to my collection.

Good documentary but not quite as good as most 30 for 30's
I watched this when it aired on ESPN and as a longtime Yankee fan with childhood memories of the old Stadium, I was slightly unimpressed with this documentary. I say that because the ESPN 30 for 30 documentaries are usually awesome, even when it's about something that I didn't know much about nor even care. So I figured this one would really suck me in, but there really wasn't all that much to it. The best parts of it are the fan and former player interviews with tears in their eyes, and the footage of the old stadium including stuff you've never seen before (video of the demolition, a painting of Yankee captains on a support column that really moved Derek Jeter, stuff like that).

Bottom Line: If you're a longtime Yankee fan with an emotional attachment to the old Stadium, you'll want to pick up this documentary. Otherwise if you were just thinking of buying it because you're a fan of the 30 for 30 series, you can probably pass on this one.

What was this about?
Was the point of this to tell George Steinbrenner's history with the Yankees? Or was it to tell the story of the new stadium? Of Steinbrenner's ever-morphing relationship with the fans? Of the Steinbrenner family's takeover of the Yankees as George declined? It had elements of all of those, yet did not complete a story arc on any of them.

As someone who admires and respects the great history of the Yankees and has enjoyed learning about that in various baseball books and in great documentaries such as Ken Burns' Baseball, this left me wanting more.
