Classic Robert Newton Pirate Film
The quintessential pirate Robert Newton delivers an outstanding performance in this classic pirate movie. The DigiComTV transfer is excellent considering the age of the film. A very good transfer encoded at a respectable 6 mbps rate with rich color saturation and good detail. There are some minor artifacts at times but they do not detract from watching and enjoying the action. This is the best transfer I have seen to date, considerably better than the old black and white version I watched as growing up. Kudos to DigiCom for making this hard to find color version available.
The old films
I guess I like Robert Newton in the role of any pirate, he fit the bill. It's not a bad movie, however very off target. Would I recommend it, only for entertainment purpose; not if you want to know the real Blackbeard.
Entertaining
Funny, off-beat, entertaining. Robert Newell seems a bit off at Blackbeard, he appears as if he's acting and isn't quite as believable as I would have liked. Would have been nice to see the bad guy win, since the good guys weren't very likable, but all in all fun to watch, especially on Talk Like a Pirate day.
