ARADHANA, AN INDIAN CASSIC
ARADHANA ("WORSHIP") was one of the big flicks of the Golden Age of the made-in-Bombay Hindi cinema of the Sixties and Seventies, which is to say "Bollywood" before the term was actually coined. It was a star vehicle for handsome leading man Rajesh Khanna, often called the "first superstar of Hindi films" and classic beauty Sharmila Tagore who was a top female star of the same time. Sharmila won the FILMFARE best actress award for this performance (India's Oscar equivalent) and when you watch the movie it won't be hard to see why. In the flick Khanna plays a dashing Indian air force pilot (there are at least half a dozen indian movies where the hero is a dashing military pilot) -- who gets killed in a plane crash in part I, but comes back to play the son he fathered before the crash in Part 2. This is is definitely a symphony in two distinct movements Emotion Picture. The film opens when he spots the beautiful Sharmila at a train station, is immediately hit by the well-known...
Not sure how to rate this...
It's an old movie on DVD, so it doesn't have a lot of the technology of today's movies. It works in the DVD Player, so I guess it works as it should.
great songs and great chemistry
Great movie with a tight script, good direction and a good story line. Amazing chemistry between the lead pair and great songs with a timeless appeal make this movie a great watch. Rajesh Khanna really looks georgeous, has really acted well to differentiate between the father and son characters. Sharmila Tagore is a bit artificial and the hairstyles need getting used to (sadly all movies during this time suffered from this!) but as a couple these two are really great together even though this is their first movie, and Rajesh was a newcomer compared to the already established 'glamarous' Sharmila! A really must watch if you like romance!
